Picking Ideas

After having a discussion with my tutor, I now have a main idea. We discussed what ideas were good and what wouldn't work within the time schedule.

The children's app idea was a good start, with having it turned into an RPG, similar to "The Phantom Tollbooth"for learning. The problem with this is that I would have to create different levels, characters, controls and main menus as well as providing advertising.  This would not fit well in with the time limit given.

The product idea of designing a phone would also not be beneficial as I could not make a phone on Inventor as the college does not provide it. It can work with changing the name and logo with a real phone and advertise it through packaging and a TV advert.

Lastly, I would like to advertise a band, creating album works, posters/tours, photography and a few merchandise. I would also like to create a music video, but that depends if a band i know of would be playing. I would need to change the name of the band as it is not actual promoting them as such.

Each of these ideas are great but the main idea I would want to do is to advertise a band with their music, that is if I gain permission from a friend who is already in one.  I would take photos of the band and go to their gigs. Furthermore, I would also have one of their popular tracks to promote as a "Single album" and create a logo. This would help me get an insight of what it would be like working with a band as a designer, so it is some sort of experience.

After receiving the outcome for my graded unit I already had a few ideas. I want to make either a product or an app that can help people in general as well as provide entertainment. 

My first idea was designing a phone thats waterproof, a longer battery life, strong screen and is better than an I-phone. A new modern design of the phone that has not been seen before as well as another way of charging the battery and to keep long lasting battery life. 

I also thought about some Apps. I want to create a children's learning app for their school. Most apps are either incorrect, missing key lessons or not as straight forward for a 10 year old. The app will cover a lot of subjects from 1st year to 4th year high school students and provide mascots to help learning e.g. Study Owl or LeapFrog

While thinking about electrical items, I noticed how hard it is for someone who wants to start Illustration of using a tablet pen. These pens are used on graphics tablet and must have the eye on the computer screen whilst drawing, multitasking. This can be hard for some people who have trouble with hand eye coordination. I want to create a pen that can be used on paper and transmit the data of the drawing via bluetooth or wifi. A pen similar to this was already created called the live scribe 3 but that was just used for taking notes on an app and received bad reviews. The pen I want to design will be used in Illustrator and Photoshop, with the buttons used to change tools on the computer. The buttons will also change the colour and add layers so it can be easy to edit your original drawing on Illustrator.

My other idea is creating a new, modern I-pod dock station for ALL iPods. The station will be compatible with the iPod nano as well as iPod touch using bluetooth. It will be wireless so that it can be used in transport, but will also come with a charger to charge up. The design will have a slick glass look panel which can show a visualiser of the beats played by the music. The visualiser can light up in darkness would be perfect for parties and all ages. As it is glass-like material (not actual glass) the speakers will revert onto the glass and will sound louder than any normal speaker.

My last idea is a fashion idea. Most women wear skirts in the summer or any time of the year. But if you live in a windy place it can be difficult to wear whilst holding it down, also when the weather changes (which is usual for Scotland) the women are stuck in sorts in the pouring rain. I want to create a skirt that can change into a pair of jeans or 3/4 lengths. it can go with any top as it comes in many colours and two materials, cotton and denim. I want to design a skirt that can have zips on the inside, so when the weather turns, people can just zip up each leg so that they're not having to deal with a skirt in the wind or rain.

Before I start on these ideas, i will need to research each product and create a pitch for next week. If I had to choose which one I would advertise it would be the iPod dock or the skirt.  Just because they interest me more than the other ideas and would be something i would like to own, if it was real.
